4 days left...

I know that it has been long between posts, but I hope everything will get back to normal soon.
Four days left and I can feel it in my bones, can't wait to move. There are now approximately 50-60 boxes in our living room. We have emptied our attic space, well almost, there is a candy pastille box left there, but can't move that one by myself (sounds weird I know).

Getting the keys to our house on Tuesday. Will start to move then, but the big load moves on Wednesday. That will be a great workout session.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry X-mas and a Happy Creative New Year.

20 days left....

I thought I would be able to get some painting done before moving, but my heart and mind isn't in it, so no painting until we are set in our new place. I did create this nice pile though. Does it count as a sculpture? (just kidding)

20 days left now...

Latest update!

I have been absent for a while and I haven't had any serious painting time for months.
It started with the idea of starting to plan the next part of our life, getting a larger place to live in.
That meant fixing/renovate our kitchen etc., selling our apartment, finding a house to buy and moving there.
Well, we have 6 weeks to pack our things and move to our first house. A lot more space (with a real studio space to paint in), a garden etc. I am looking forward to it.

I am going to try to get one painting done before it is time to focus on packing. It is for my own pleasure and to get my mind off things. I think I am going for a large version of an old favorite of mine.

I also took the time to go through old paintings and destroyed the ones that I didn't like, wasn't good enough or interesting enough to keep. The final count was around 70 paintings, so that makes the move slightly lighter.

I hope I will get back to some regular painting soon.
This is a picture of some of the paintings that are no longer.

Carol Marine's Book "Daily Painting"

Carol Marine has written a book about "Daily Painting". She is a great artist and teacher and the book is full of great art and tips about painting. Carol was kind enough to include me, my thoughts and a painting in the book.

It is a great book and it is available at Amazon.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 40

SOLD

I started this one 5 weeks ago, in the middle of my 9-10 weeks break. I had to stop painting when I realized that covering up the newly sanded and varnished floor was a bad idea, the color on the floor has to set first, otherwise you got dark and light spots.
It is finished now though (I think), I have experimented a lot, pushed my limits, tried to keep it rough enough, playful and not simplify it too much. This is the largest bird's nest painting that I have done and a real challenge since I only had the basic composition to work from.
I'm not objective enough to judge this one right now, but I learned a lot from the process.

Flower Abstraction 103

I am about to start painting again, am a little to eager to start right now, so I have to relax and not rush things. This is a square version of a painting that I posted earlier. Both paintings were painted back in June.

Some of you might have noticed that I have started to sign smaller paintings a little bit different, not included the year when it is painted. Not sure if this will be a permanent thing, but the thought is to make it easier to sign smaller paintings and not making it so visible.

Tree Abstraction 55

I hate waiting, and there is a lot of that going on right now. I still got some paintings that I can post, but I will run out sooner or later.

onsdag 3 september 2014

Bird's Nest Abstraction 7

Still not painting but I still got things to post. This is one of my earlier bird's nests, more natural, less abstract in a way. It is scary how time goes by so fast, this one is from last year.

Rowan Berries 21

Still not able to paint (well, I started but had to stop), am in the process of selling our apartment and buying a larger apartment (or house), don't want to mess up all the things we have done recently.

I will be able to paint after I have covered the walls (with plastic) and the newly sanded and varnished wooden floor. I have to wait another 2 weeks until I can cover the floor though.

This is a painting of one of my favorite themes. The intention was to do an updated version of one of my first Rowan berries paintings for my Easter exhibit, but it didn't make the final cut, not enough space.

Landscape Exploration 10

I have started to paint again, not as much as before, but I have a lot of things going on in my life right now, not sure if I will be able to do as much as I would like to. This is a painting that I painted a while back. It is a little different in the way the composition is almost like a close-up, a fragment of a larger scene.

Flower Abstraction 95

This is also an experimentation with a rejected painting. I did a dark blue transparent wash, making the old painting showing trough the layer and using it when it had a purpose. The process of this painting is more or less going from dark to light.

If everything goes well tomorrow, I will be painting again after my 3 weeks break.

måndag 11 augusti 2014

Flower Abstraction 106

Still not able to paint, but soon I hope. This is a flower abstraction painting that takes advantage of a rejected painting. I did a transparent red/pink layer and used it in the composition. Sometimes a rejected painting can still lead to something. The downside with acrylic (compared to oil) is that I can't wipe a canvas/panel, but sometimes I can use what I got left with.
This is a painting that is all about experimentation and having fun.

Shapes & Movement 8

Here is one of my earlier non-figurative abstract paintings. As usual I have no logic to when to post which painting.
Still on a break, have a lot of things on my plate, but I think it is a good break that will charge my batteries and get some new ideas.

tisdag 5 augusti 2014

Shapes & Movement 25

This was a large landscape painting going nowhere. It did didn't have the edge that I was looking for. Since a start with initial line work and washes on a empty canvas was an impossibility, I decided to do my largest abstract painting ever, it was a real challenge. I had a lot of fun, a lot of head-scratches, and learned a lot in the process. I'm not totally objective to judge it yet, but so far, I am pleased with the result.

söndag 3 augusti 2014

Landscape Abstraction 6

I did this small abstract landscape painting as a test before I tried it out on some large paintings. I wanted to go over the top with color, not holding anything back. I posted the larger ones that I painted after this one earlier.

onsdag 30 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 105

I wanted to do a very mono chromic painting, with flowers peaking through, but with enough contrasts to make it work. It was challenge to use as much red as I did in this painting, and fun to experiment. I don't always no where I am going, but I know that I have to go in some direction.

måndag 28 juli 2014

Shapes & Movement 5

This is a small abstract painting that I painted a while back. The shapes in this one are more like different sizes of brush strokes. I recently (before my little break) painted my largest abstract painting ever, and it was a real challenge. More about that one later. It is now time to paint a 2nd coat of paint on my kitchen walls.

onsdag 23 juli 2014

Landscape Exploration 12

I thought I would bring a new element in this landscape painting, a path between the trees. I lost the simplicity a little, but I had to put in some more details, some more brush strokes to make it work. It lost some of it's roughness, but I still like it.

måndag 21 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 108

Been painting a lot the last months and I feel that I need a break, recharge my batteries. A good time to renovate my kitchen. Well there will be some kind of painting at least, even if it will be in one color, white.
This is one of the paintings that haven't been posted yet. It is a large flower abstraction painting, with focus on color, shapes and playfulness.

torsdag 17 juli 2014

Landscape Abstraction 8

This is a large landscape abstraction with a limited color palette. I wanted it to have great compact with vibrant colors, a good balance between simplicity and details and to have enough elements in the composition to make it interesting. I really like this one.

The two last pictures show the painting's size compared to a 8" x 8" painting.

tisdag 15 juli 2014

Shapes & Movement 24

This is the largest non-figurative painting that I have done. I decided to do one after I wiped two attempts at doing one of my "landscape abstractions". There wasn't much paint on the canvas, but there was no way that I could use any transparent washes, something I like to do in my landscape paintings. Doing abstract at this size was a challenge, but I had a lot of fun doing it.

söndag 13 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 99

This a flower abstraction painting based on the flower concept that I have been working on, all about shapes, simplicity and color. This one has an overall warm color palette and contrasts made with values.

onsdag 9 juli 2014

Landscape abstraction 7

I felt that I had to push myself a little after doing a more "subtle" landscape painting, going more bold with the colors and brush strokes. It is the same size as the other real large ones that I have done. It was a challenge, but I think it paid of.

söndag 6 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 107

I usually wait a while before I post a painting, but this one is new and I though I would share it. It was a big challenge, not only because of the size, but also because I wanted to balance the decorative aspects with a roughness and to keep it contemporary.

torsdag 3 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 104

Once upon a time, this was a landscape abstraction painting, but not anymore. I never got to the place where I was satisfied with the landscape, partly yes, but not as a whole. I decided to scrap it, take advantage of the opportunity and have some fun.

onsdag 2 juli 2014

Flower Abstraction 102

I do paint some small paintings, trying out new things etc. I'm not sure if it is a permanent thing, but I signed this small painting without putting the year after my name. I think I will continue to do that on small paintings. It can be a pain to fit that in sometimes.
I don't put that many paintings up for auction, but I thought I break the pattern and do it with this one.

tisdag 1 juli 2014

Landscape Exploration 8

This is one of the smaller ones I have done since my exhibition. I still love to explore and express myself on large canvases. I kept this one clean and graphic, making each brush stroke count.

söndag 29 juni 2014

Flower Abstraction 101

 Size comparison to a 6" x 6" painting

This is my largest painting of these abstract flowers. I have been doing around 30 paintings of this concept of flowers, small and large ones, all focused on their design and colors. This painting is like a rainbow. It sings with color and have great impact. It is anything but boring. It is fun.

onsdag 25 juni 2014

Shapes & Movement 13

SOLD

I did three variations of this abstract composition, trying out some different approaches. The largest one was posted earlier. This one is similar to that one, but smaller. The paint layers & brush strokes  are clean and graphic.

tisdag 24 juni 2014

Flower Abstraction 98

This is one of my large flower abstraction paintings and one of the more abstract ones. I like how the colors are working together and how playful it is.

söndag 22 juni 2014

Landscape Exploration 11

This is my latest painting. Can't say that I am objective right now, but I am pleased with it. I know that I can paint small, but right now it doesn't work for me. It is only when I go big that I feel that I can spread my wings and fly. Going small right now mean getting stuck, but I know that will change.

2nd photo show size compared to a 6" x 6" painting.

fredag 20 juni 2014

Shapes & Movement 23

I still don't know if it is a good thing to post on a weekend, but haven't posted for a few days and thought it was time for something new.
I haven't painted for a week, felt like I was painting on routine, had the "been there, done that" feeling.
That was a good break, I am back now and it is fun to paint again. This is a painting that I did a while back, an abstract painting with the slightest association of trees.

tisdag 17 juni 2014

Flower Abstraction 87

This is one of my graphic, abstract flower painting with the focus on design, simplicity and color.

Giclée Prints

When I had my exhibition in April, I decided to make some giclée prints (reproductions).
I chose 5 paintings, some of my favorites, printed them in smaller versions than the originals.
The prints are limited editions of 50 and they are all numbered and signed.

The smaller ones cost 60 $ and the larger ones 65 $, shipping and handling included. If you want one, visit my DPW page or contact me.

Tree Abstraction 52

I have been thinking about the fact that I have been continuously painting for 3 years, something I haven't been able to do before. My conclusion is that before I did nothing to evolve, to grow, just did what I had always done. Sure I got more skill, but I never got a thrill from it. For better or worse, I am now on this journey and I enjoy it.

This is an larger abstract landscape painting, with a limited color palette.

torsdag 12 juni 2014

Tree Abstraction 54

I just went full turbo with this one, going full color, not holding back. It remind me of a rainbow and I like how bold it is.

tisdag 10 juni 2014

Landscape Abstraction 2

This painting is the result of going in a new direction, but keeping a limited color palette. I like this one a lot.

söndag 8 juni 2014

Flower Abstraction 100

I often hear that my art is colorful, something I don't think of when painting. With this one I wanted to pull back, use less color, but in the end I think it is still colorful, just not as much as usual. I did a smaller (16" x 16") version also, will post that one later.

Tree Abstraction 49

(Since it is a study and I had a birthday recently)

This one is a revisit to an older approach to paint trees, a path I will revisit again. This one was more like a study than an attempt to do a finished painting. I have been painting a lot lately and am considering what to do next, slowing down a little.
