I have been painting large and mainly landscapes and trees lately, so don't have much to mix up my posts with. I have a few paintings with other themes, but I wanted to show this one first, a favorite of mine. I like the playfulness and composition of this one.

This is a small painting with focus on composition, simplicity, colors and contrasts. These small paintings really challenge me, and that can be a good thing.

There is a little fun story attached to this painting. It started out as a hit and miss painting, that I almost scrapped. I liked the left part, but the right part really sucked. I putted it aside and gave it a rest, not sure what to do, I really liked the left side. The day after, I decided to rework the right side, being bold and I think it worked out very well.

I have done this kind of color combinations on larger tree abstraction paintings, but this is the first one that is small. I love these limited color palettes.

This is another small tree painting, slightly more abstract than the one I posted a few days ago. I was able to transfer some of the elements from my larger paintings into this one. I am starting to enjoy painting small landscapes.

This is a new large painting. I got the reference photo from my father, I have put him on photo duty and he does an excellent work. To be honest, he is in better shape than me and he is 83 years old.
I usually pick only part of a reference photo, the feeling, some details, the colors etc. I don't pay much notice to the trees, which might be odd. I might take some placement suggestions from the photo though.

Not the best photograph, but I took it to show the size compared to a 6" x 6" painting.

One more flower painting that is loosely based on the Iris flower, but an early one, before  I took it all the way with details. I like the soft value changes between the blues and purples.

Not sure why I painted this one. I guess I wanted to test my limits and see how small I could paint with my line based style. I can't say that I could put a lot of flair into it, but it didn't turn out that bad.

I confess that I don't take a lot of time, figuring out smart and interesting names for my paintings, should I? I just pick names that gives an indication what it is.
I pushed the colors in this one, made a colorful wash first and then took it from there.

A matter of size...

The difficult thing about pictures of paintings on Internet is to show size. The best way to show size is to see the painting, experience the painting. The next best thing is to compare it with something. Thought I would compare my largest paintings size with my smallest one (6" x 6").

This is one of my larger flower abstractions that I painted in April. I usually start something small and working my way up in size, but these I went the opposite way.

Metal art project.

I was approached a while back by an American company that manufacture metal wall sculptures based on paintings. The company is called "All my walls".
The metal surface is treated, sanded to reflect light, creating pattern effects.
The paintings that are available are from 2011-2012 and are some of my favorites of that time.

This is my first real big painting that I did after my exhibition. It was fun to get back into painting, and painting big. I went with a more complex composition, and it was both fun and hard to balance it all.

While playing around with these small flower abstractions, my design ended up with iris elements. Since Iris is one of my favorite flowers, I didn't mind.

This one is based on repetition and has a pattern quality.

I did this painting a while back and it has a strong floral fee. Partly because of the colors. Using splashes of yellow/orange has that effect, at least I get that association.

This is one of my small graphic series of flowers. I like the simplicity of the flowers and compositions. You can watch them up close or from a distance. I like this series of paintings a lot.

I might not sell many large paintings abroad, but I am pleased to see that my large paintings sell and are among the most popular paintings during and after my exhibition. I am painting on the large side right now and loving it.
