It is no secret that I prefer to paint larger paintings, well at least large enough to work my lines etc. There is times when I get the urge to go small and I do think I learn a lot by it. This is one of those paintings and it was painted a while ago. I have also done some smaller paintings last week, but they will be posted later.

I did this one as a part of a project that didn't happen in the end. I explored the same composition in different ways, more as preparation for a really big painting. I might do that big one anyway because I like the challenge of it.
I went with a very limited color scheme with this try, wanted to focus on the shapes and forms more than the colors of the nests.

This is one of my latest paintings and the subject is one of my favorites. A good subject can be done, explored and approached in many ways. Being an endless inspiration source helps too. I am still considering what the next one will be. I went smaller with this one, and really focused on keeping it direct and graphic. I have tried a new size (10" x 10") and I like that it gives me more freedom, but is  still quite small.

This was my 3rd version of this composition. They are all similar, but in different sizes. This was the middle size. I wanted to see how much my approach changed with size, if it meant more brush strokes and details, or if I could keep the same simplicity. The two small  paintings has the same feel, but the larger one demanded more details.

I think I have changed and improved a lot since I started to paint seriously and regulary. I have been thinking of going through older paintings and see if anyone of them deserve a 2nd try. There can be compositions and ideas that might be good. I never did before, but now I often do more than one version of a subject/composition.
This one is based on an earlier painting, not that old though, but I cropped the composition and went down in size. It is very direct and raw.

This is the 2nd painting I did from a reference photo that I took this summer. I posted the first painting earlier. I usually use a reference photo as an inspiration, a blueprint, an idea. I think I can do many different paintings from the same reference since I put my own twist on things.

I did this composition in two versions, one small and one large. I did the larger one first and went more experimental with it and followed up with the smaller one that is more restrained.

I have done a lot of bird's nest paintings, but I think I have done them in a lot of different ways. Still in my style, but with different approaches. This is one of the later ones in the series when I went bold, but not as bold as my last post. This one is more graphic than abstract, I think.

I did this a while ago and is the most experimental bird's nest painting I have done. I really pushed things with this one. If it is a hit or miss is not that important, time will tell, what is important is that I am not afraid to fail.
