Playful blueberries 1

Back to blueberries, but not the one I had in mind. This is my latest painting and is my first larger painting for a while. Considering that the painting is 15.7" x 23.6", these are some serious big blueberries. Not that the ones on my first painting was smaller, but this one is more complex.
I am sure there is blueberries that are more blue than black, but the ones I bought is more black than blue. I played with the subtle colors, and the painting is almost black and white, with a hint of color.

  1. I love the way your still lifes often have some distance to them. Like things are charging towards the viewer. Very dramatic!

  2. Hi Roger! Good to see you got over your painter's block. ;)
In my experience, blueberries are seldom blue. Once you touch one, the blue rubs off and you're left with an eggplant-black. So this is very true to life and wonderfully captured. You got those little flower-shaped areas and brown stringy-things and everything. Reminds me of picking blueberries at my grandma's house - her bushes were ancient and over 5 feet tall!
Love the other berry painting, and the irises too.
