Waterlily Abstraction 6

I am not sure where I will take my waterlily paintings, how much I will push them. Right now I just let it come natural, finding some balance between energy and calmness. And of course having fun with it.

Abstructure 5

SOLD

I did this one a while back when I explored cone flowers etc. in the series "Abstructure". Since I try to mix things up and not just post things I do there and then, it can take some time before some paintings get posted.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 22

I thought I post one of the latest paintings in this series. This is the first of two large paintings, the largest ones in this series and one of my personal favorites. I went more toward to the abstract with it and I had fun painting it.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 3

This was the 3rd painting I did in this series, a series that so far contain 22 paintings. The color choices in this painting makes me think of the beach, water or a lake.

Waterlily Abstraction 5

I posted earlier the start of this painting. I thought it was a good start, but I realized that if I wanted that kind of simplicity, I shouldn't have painted it during the evening with no natural light. The contrast looks greater than they actually are.
I didn't push it too much, wanted to find a starting point to work from. I like the result and found myself enjoying painting waterlilies again.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 14

This one has a little story. I was so happy about "Bird's nest abstraction 10" that I wanted to do a larger version of it, but with a slightly different composition. I chose a slightly darker orange, almost burned sienna as a wash on it, which made the start a little different than the original. The fact that I work a lot by instinct,  and the bold brush strokes gives the painting so much impact, the painting took a direction that I wasn't prepared for. Since I had my mind set on one thing, I was unhappy, unsure about what I felt like about the new painting. I loved it one minute, hated it the next. I was about to trash it when my love came home from work and loved it. Insisting that I finish it, which I did. Now it is one of my personal favorites.

I think this one was a perfect example about not being objective and have my mind set on what it wasn't instead of it's possibilities.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 2

This is my 2nd take on the subject and is a continuation of the first. I thought I should ad some more color to the mix (compared to the first one).

Waterlily Abstraction 5 (progress)

I don't know if I am done with the Bird's nest series or just taking a break, but I have finally figured out what I want to paint next and have started a painting on the subject, Waterlilies.
I have painted a lot of those earlier, but have more or less avoided them since I didn't know where I want to take them, how to adjust them to my evolving and changing style. I know that the obstacle has been lack of confidence.
I have finally taken the bull by the horns and got started, am exploring and think I am off to a good start at least.
PS! I will not show all 20 paintings of bird's nests, but there is a lot still to come.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 10

This is one of the directions that I have taken my "nest" paintings. I do use dark lines, but at the moment, no black. I like the boldness of the colors and brush strokes. I will keep this one myself, at least for a while, to remind me where I want to go and explore.

Apples and pears 8

A saying goes like this. Every action has a reaction, that is very true when it comes to my art. I go in one direction and sooner or later I take it in another, from colorful to more muted ones and so on. After a series of expressive paintings, I took this one to a very calm place, letting the contrast come from the background.
I will do another version of this one, slightly larger and more playful.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 8

A suggestion and try have lead to a series. I have had a lot of fun, taking different directions and explored the subject. I have done one painting with eggs and that one is one of my latest ones. I avoided eggs cause I wanted to keep it more abstract, playing with form, color and lines. In the end it doesn't matter if one get the connection or not, as long as it is interesting.
I did go more abstract with this one. I also used more bold colors.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 4

I could post these Bird's nest painting in the order they were made, there is a progression (I think), but to mix things up and not post two painting in a row that has a similar feel, I have decided to post randomly (well I pick which one I feel like).
With this one I started to work more on the form/shape of the nest. I had a blast painting this one.

Apples and napa cabbage 2

I painted two paintings with apples and napa cabbage, this is the 2nd one. I liked the size difference and the way they worked together. Right now I am bird nest crazy, testing different approaches to it. Will be posted later. So far it is a mini series of seven paintings, but I am not done yet.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 1

SOLD

A great artist and inspiration for me, Julie Ford Oliver, have been absent for a while. She has been concentrating all her time and energy on different projects. One was an solo exhibition and she posted a few lovely watercolors of the subject of the show, "birds nests", on her blog. I wrote a comment saying "Once again you inspire me, almost want to try out birds nests".
She wrote back saying that she hoped I would and that she could see one painted in my style. Julie can paint anything, me I avoid things that doesn't excite me and I can't paint everything. But I took the challenge and this is my first attempt.

Autumn Berries 7

I know that it is spring, but I think autumn is still my favorite season. When I saw this weeks challenge on Daily Paintworks, I knew I would do at least one attempt at it. The challenge is called "The Warm/Cool Challenge" and I chose to do an autumn painting with warm as the dominant temperature the cool comes from the hint of sky through the leaves.

Flower Abstraction 19

It is no secret that I like Cone flowers. I love how they look, almost alien. After painting colorful ones, I thought I paint these pale pink ones. I did this on in two sizes, I actually do that a lot lately, partly because of curiosity, could that be improved it I.....
This time I went from small to bigger. Trying out the subject and composition first, then going up in size and see if I could give it some more flair. This is the small one.

Cupcake 24

SOLD

I have painted a few cupcakes lately, inspired by two different reference cupcakes, so there are variations of them. I painted two of this raspberry cupcake. I started with this one, but at some point I thought 6" x6" was too small to be able to do the raspberries justice, started with an 8" x 8" one instead. After I finished the larger one, I realized that I really liked the small one and finished it. I am glad I did.

Exploration 5

This is my contribution to this weeks Daily Paintworks Challenge "The Crazy Making Challenge". The challenge provided a photo of a mannequin dressed in a white and black striped dress, surrounded by mirrors, which means a lot of reflections. I didn't feel like painting a mannequin, but liked the abstract qualities of the stripes, so I cropped the photo really hard, let it inspire me and had some fun with it.

Healthy Snacks 11

SOLD

I have never painted oranges before, and even though I tried to keep it simple, the size and my style demanded more details than expected. I might be able to simplify oranges more in the future, but I think it was a good first attempt.
