I realized when I posted an old favorite of mine on Instagram, that it seem that I never posted it on my blog, or elsewhere. Probably because I did a few versions, especially close-ups of the same set up.

I really like this one too, because it is larger and a little "over the top".

It is no secret that I prefer to paint larger paintings, well at least large enough to work my lines etc. There is times when I get the urge to go small and I do think I learn a lot by it. This is one of those paintings and it was painted a while ago. I have also done some smaller paintings last week, but they will be posted later.

I did this composition in two versions, one small and one large. I did the larger one first and went more experimental with it and followed up with the smaller one that is more restrained.

Whenever I don't know what to paint or need something to get me going, (after a break for example), I paint something that I love to do. One of those subjects are berries and fruit and this one I did to get me started after my long break. It is big, colorful and I went with energy and bold brush strokes. Not sure why, but I have a blast when I do that.

This is two paintings that was done when I felt like really push the (my) limits. The first one I just went for it, experimented with colors and shapes and had a lot of fun doing it. I liked the result, but I wondered how it would look like if I took more control of it and kept it cleaner, so I painted the 2nd one. I like them both, but for different reasons.

This is the painting that inspired my latest posts of blueberries (,cherries and raspberries). It is large and very in your face considering that some of the berries as large as a head, at least a child's head.
It is too hot for me to paint right now and don't have much spare time to sit down, but it's only summer once a year, right?

First I did this giant (19,7" x 27,6"), crazy and colorful painting of cherries, blueberries and raspberries. When I was done, I realized that within the painting I found a part that I liked and thought it would be a great composition in itself. I did two versions, like them both and I am keeping the larger one (unless someone change my mind).

I have never painted oranges before, and even though I tried to keep it simple, the size and my style demanded more details than expected. I might be able to simplify oranges more in the future, but I think it was a good first attempt.

I got new work to show, but I thought I post some more paintings I haven't had a chance to post before. This is another small painting. I played around with blueberries at the time. This was the first I did and it gave me the idea of going more abstract with the next one (already posted).

I did earlier two paintings that I liked a lot, that combined blueberries and fabric. I kept them very simple, with an abstract quality. This is a small variation of that theme. I tried to keep it simple and rough enough. It was painted around the same time as the other ones.
I am pleased with the fact that I am painting again, mixed results, but it is a start.

This is the 2nd painting I did with this pink and purple fabric with blueberries. I tried to keep it graphic, fun and abstract. It is interesting how much inspiration a fabric can give.

I did this composition twice. This one, the 2nd one, I did after I had done the single blueberry with the extreme brush strokes and contrasts. I kept the same principle with this one.

I went very graphic and bold with this one. I like the abstract feeling and also the contrasts. This is actually the first 6" x 6" painting I did with the bold brush strokes and the simplicity.

I continued to play with fabric and combined it with some blueberries. I took an abstract approach, played with it, didn't go too detailed. I had a lot of fun.

There will be more Rowen berries later, but first another "Super Size Fruits" painting. I have painted a lot this past week and I have had a lot of fun, more than usual in fact. I think the break was a good thing. Things had time to sink in and I recharged my creative battery.

I revisited raspberries with this one. I think I found a good balance between detail and keeping it simple. I didn't go as rough and loose as the first one, but I didn't get lost with the details either. I tried to keep it clean, simple and graphic. I had a lot of fun with it.

I am back!

It has been a couple of crazy months, both good and bad things happened. I started to renovate my apartment to take my mind of the bad things. First the hallway and now I am a week from having a new bathroom.

My last post was on the 20th of November and I haven't done any painting for a month (walls don't count). I finally got started yesterday again, and the focus right now is to get painting into my system again.

If I don't keep on painting I loose motivation. My biggest motivation is progress and to explore.
It was really hard to get going again. I will try to do things that I like, even redo old paintings that I think I could do better or different know.

I went very rough with this one. I am not in the mood to work small or doing a lot of details. I like flaws, they give a painting character.

Playful blueberries 3

This is a new version of an old favorite of mine. The original painting was 15.7" x 23.6" and I wanted something similar but on a square.  I know it is a matter of taste, but I love close-ups with a lot of berries etc.
I keep this for now, but it is for sale in case anyone is interested.

This is my 7th and for the moment last snacks painting.
I have also been thinking about taking some time off painting, or at least slowing down and enjoying the summer. I have a 4 week vacation coming soon. Not going anywhere, but am going to take things slow and enjoy life.
I also plan to go back to paint on paper for a while and really experiment and try new things.
