Apples and pears 11

I try to change subjects, especially when I get stuck or think I need to "clean my pallet", as you say when it comes to food. I wanted this one to be rough and have a lot of contrast.

Apples and pears 10

Not For Sale

This is a composition that I have done before, but not as small as this. When it comes to subjects or compositions I have two criteria. I don't want to repeat what other artist do and I want to "ad something new to the conversation". To paint something, I have to believe/feel that I can at-least accomplish on of those. Painting fruit is a common subject and I often get stuck because I don't think it is fun or unique enough. I have done a few that I probably won't post, but this one I like.

Apples and pears 4

This was my 3rd version of this composition. They are all similar, but in different sizes. This was the middle size. I wanted to see how much my approach changed with size, if it meant more brush strokes and details, or if I could keep the same simplicity. The two small  paintings has the same feel, but the larger one demanded more details.

Apples and Pears 9

SOLD

This is a slightly larger version of a painting I did a while back. I liked the old version, but I wanted to see how it would look if I could go bolder with my brush strokes and lines. Size do make a difference, at least I feel more free and can feel the brush strokes while I painting, if you know what I mean.

Apples and pears 8

A saying goes like this. Every action has a reaction, that is very true when it comes to my art. I go in one direction and sooner or later I take it in another, from colorful to more muted ones and so on. After a series of expressive paintings, I took this one to a very calm place, letting the contrast come from the background.
I will do another version of this one, slightly larger and more playful.

Apples and napa cabbage 2

I painted two paintings with apples and napa cabbage, this is the 2nd one. I liked the size difference and the way they worked together. Right now I am bird nest crazy, testing different approaches to it. Will be posted later. So far it is a mini series of seven paintings, but I am not done yet.

Apples and napa cabbage 1

It is not that I like the "old" paintings that I have left to show, but I like to mix things up with some new ones.
This is a first for me, painting cabbage and it was a challenge. I started a painting with this, kind of strange set up, but it looked far too "realistic" and I did this one instead. I took what I had learned and put more spin on it. I'm not sure why I liked this composition, perhaps because it's not predictable. I had a lot of fun painting it.

Apples and Pears 7

I painted this one a while back when I experimented with fabrics. I had a lot of fun with it and am sure I will use fabrics again.

Apples and Pears 5

I went back to small with this one and I tried to keep it clean and simple. I wanted every brush stroke to count.

Apple Abstraction 23

SOLD

I have continued with my 6" x 6" paintings. Concentrating on simplicity, keeping it graphic and fresh.

Super Size Fruit 8

This is the 2nd version of three with this composition. After I made a small one (8" x 8") I wondered if it would look different if I did it larger, would I change the brush strokes and keep it as simple as the first one? The answer is "no"! Going up in size meant more brush strokes and details.

Apple Abstraction 19

Buy two 6" x 6" paintings and only pay shipping and handling for one.

The majority of paintings done in the last two months has been 16" x 16" or larger. There has been some 8" x 8", but I haven't been able to get anything squeezed in on a smaller panel than that. I have a pile of 6" x 6" panels and I wondered if I would ever get anything done on them. I did give it a go today, and for some reason it worked.

Apples and Pears 2

I bought the fabrics to inspire me, not to limit my expression. I am not trying to recreate the fabric, but use it as a supporting actor to my composition. I love how the fabric colors resonate with the color of the red pears.

Apples and Pears 1

I finally got around and bought some fabric and have played around with it in combination with fruit. I have also done more than one version of several compositions. Playing around with it, doing more or less color, changing size on the panel etc. I have done 3 version of this one and this was the first one. I'm not sure why, but I really liked the composition and the feeling of it.

Apple abstraction 14

An apple a day, keep the doctor away, or at least that is what we say in Sweden. This is a small painting where I put the focus on a single apple.

Apple abstraction 11

I have started to experiment with my lines in different ways, breaking them up, changing colors etc. This one doesn't have any black lines at all, which is strange for me, but it works at least on this one. This one isn't for sale at the moment, want to keep it as reference for further explorations.

Did take this progress picture with my iPhone at an early stage and I almost wanted to keep it like that, but I felt is was too unfinished. Too bad one can't have the cake and eat it.

Apple abstraction 8

I do confess, I have painted a lot of apples lately. I think apples is a great way to push brush strokes, colors and have some fun.

Apple abstraction 6

I thought I do a few paintings where I ad something to the background and not just improvise it. I used a orange and white kitchen towel. I am not sure if I want to sell this or not, at least I will not cry if I don't get it sold.
