Landscape study

SOLD

This is more of an exploration than a planned and executed painting. I painted this a week ago. Even if I have done some successful landscape paintings, they have like most of my artwork been a close-up study where I have been able to use my line work. If things are more distant, I need to find a way to do it my way, but also a way to get looser and even loose the line.
I learned from this painting and I like it in parts, but I am still a beginner.

  1. That's a big and complex painting! Good work...it looks good and you didn't lose your signature style ;-)

    1. Thank you Scott. Another painter (Rick Nilson) said to me that so much about what you paint and how you paint is about confidence, and I agree with that.
Painting things that one is familiar with or done a lot, it comes with ease. Painting landscape for me right now is a balance act, and it is outside of my comfort zone. I think one of my strengths is to keep things simple and graphic, and now I need to find the balance with simplicity and details in a landscape, and gain the confidence doing it. =)

  2. Beginners' works are the most honest and individual. The more you learn technique, the more difficult it becomes to keep your own style, the pressure of authorities is heavy, at least it's like that in my case).
I like this sunny day so much. Good luck at the art-road.

    1. Thank you Irina! =)
I think we all look at painters that is the opposite of what I am, and admire the things I am not. I know I will never be good at some things, and some times it makes me low, but I also know that all have limitations, and keeping my personality is the most important thing, even if it means that not everyone will love my art. =)

  3. I like this one. I love to see sky in a landscape, maybe because I grew up in Calgary Alberta, I'm used to low horizons. I keep meaning to do some sky studies, along with the 5 million other ideas!!

  4. Hello Roger:) I believe you have found your way in the landscapes. I don't think you should get loose of your lines, it is such a reconizeble mark of you. But however.. I think you made a great painting!

I need a lot of practice to gain the confidence in interpreter a landscape and making the right decisions.

  5. You clearly stated the distance by your color choice, and you did it very successfully! Love the warm colors up front!
Thanks for your good advice I will look out for the acrylic label you mentioned.

    1. Glad you liked it Jane. Still not sure about the amount of details in all areas, like I said, need a lot of practice.

  6. I can see how it's somehow different from your usual Roger, but still reads very YOU, grafic and bold and upbeat.

If a painting is recognizable as mine, then I am glad. Hopefully it will be considered to be good too. =)
