Rowan berries 16

Not everyone  might not be familiar with Rowen berries, but that isn't that important, there is plenty of bushes and trees with similar red berries. This is my latest painting in that series and it will not be my last. This is one of my latest paintings and reference photo was taken late summer, before the leaves changed color.

Flower Abstraction 24

I have been slacking lately. Taking some off-time from painting and have been too busy with other things. This is a flower painting I did with focus on the repetition and the changes of colors in the flowers.

Waterlily abstraction 7

SOLD

This is a new version of a painting that was lost on it's way to Canada last year. It rarely happens, but it is frustrating when it does. I did two versions, this is the first one. I liked this one a lot and it has the original painting's spirit, but I noticed that I had less visible water than the original. I think the reason for it is that the proportions on the new one is different than the original (original was painted on paper). I will show the 2nd one later.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 5

This is one of my earlier bird's nest painting and this time I worked more with depth, partly with limited amount of black lines. I can approach depth in several ways and there is also times when I don't even want to work with depth since it can work against keeping an abstract feel.

Waterlily Abstraction 5

I posted earlier the start of this painting. I thought it was a good start, but I realized that if I wanted that kind of simplicity, I shouldn't have painted it during the evening with no natural light. The contrast looks greater than they actually are.
I didn't push it too much, wanted to find a starting point to work from. I like the result and found myself enjoying painting waterlilies again.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 14

This one has a little story. I was so happy about "Bird's nest abstraction 10" that I wanted to do a larger version of it, but with a slightly different composition. I chose a slightly darker orange, almost burned sienna as a wash on it, which made the start a little different than the original. The fact that I work a lot by instinct,  and the bold brush strokes gives the painting so much impact, the painting took a direction that I wasn't prepared for. Since I had my mind set on one thing, I was unhappy, unsure about what I felt like about the new painting. I loved it one minute, hated it the next. I was about to trash it when my love came home from work and loved it. Insisting that I finish it, which I did. Now it is one of my personal favorites.

I think this one was a perfect example about not being objective and have my mind set on what it wasn't instead of it's possibilities.

Waterlily Abstraction 5 (progress)

I don't know if I am done with the Bird's nest series or just taking a break, but I have finally figured out what I want to paint next and have started a painting on the subject, Waterlilies.
I have painted a lot of those earlier, but have more or less avoided them since I didn't know where I want to take them, how to adjust them to my evolving and changing style. I know that the obstacle has been lack of confidence.
I have finally taken the bull by the horns and got started, am exploring and think I am off to a good start at least.
PS! I will not show all 20 paintings of bird's nests, but there is a lot still to come.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 4

I could post these Bird's nest painting in the order they were made, there is a progression (I think), but to mix things up and not post two painting in a row that has a similar feel, I have decided to post randomly (well I pick which one I feel like).
With this one I started to work more on the form/shape of the nest. I had a blast painting this one.
