Waterlily Abstraction 8
The weekend is here, time to show some paintings that has been around a while, but haven't been posted yet. I showed a slightly smaller and more compact version of this painting a while back and I promised to show this one too. The composition in itself is a remake of an old painting that was lost on it's way to Canada. The biggest differences between this one and the one I posted earlier is that this one has more open water, more space between the waterlily pads.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 26
After doing a lot of nests, more or less abstract, I combined waterlilies and nest in this painting. I might do a more elaborate painting of this, but at the moment I enjoy going more abstract and graphic with the nest series. I am still searching for an idea that can become a new series. A shape, an idea, a concept, suggestions are always welcome.

Waterlily Abstraction 6
I am not sure where I will take my waterlily paintings, how much I will push them. Right now I just let it come natural, finding some balance between energy and calmness. And of course having fun with it.

Waterlily Abstraction 5
I posted earlier the start of this painting. I thought it was a good start, but I realized that if I wanted that kind of simplicity, I shouldn't have painted it during the evening with no natural light. The contrast looks greater than they actually are.
I didn't push it too much, wanted to find a starting point to work from. I like the result and found myself enjoying painting waterlilies again.

Waterlily Abstraction 5 (progress)
I don't know if I am done with the Bird's nest series or just taking a break, but I have finally figured out what I want to paint next and have started a painting on the subject, Waterlilies.
I have painted a lot of those earlier, but have more or less avoided them since I didn't know where I want to take them, how to adjust them to my evolving and changing style. I know that the obstacle has been lack of confidence.
I have finally taken the bull by the horns and got started, am exploring and think I am off to a good start at least.
PS! I will not show all 20 paintings of bird's nests, but there is a lot still to come.

Waterlily abstraction 4
I sold one of my favorite waterlily paintings, so I thought I better paint another one in a similar way. Off-course it didn't end up like that. During the process the painting got it's own life and I went with it.

Waterlily abstraction 3
SOLD
This is my 3rd waterlily painting in a short while. Not sure yet in which direction I want to take them, but I have fun trying things out.

Waterlily abstraction 2
I haven't started any real series of waterlilies yet. It might happen at some point, have to wait and see. I painted this right after "Waterlily abstraction 1".

Water Lilies 2011.18
Haven't done much Water Lilies lately. It has been my favorite subject for many years, always trying to find new ways to do them. I have been more interested in the leaves on the water, than the flowers /(reminds me of PAC-man). I have mostly done buds, and to be honest, had difficulty finding a good way to do a fully open flower. With so many petals, it is hard to be a line-based style and be able to make it work, at least I have. Slowly as my style has loosened up I have started to feel comfortable doing fully open flowers. I am happy with the result of this one.

Partially Abstract Water Lilies - Mini 3
Some motives never get old, or at least you get back to it often. Water Lilies is one of those for me. They don't look like they did a year ago, but I am still having fun painting them. This is the 3rd small one I've done the last week, and I think there will be some more coming soon. I usually go with the attitude, if I don't know what to paint, paint Water Lilies, they are never a waste of time.

Partially Abstract Water Lilies - Mini 1
SOLD
Here is the first smaller Water Lily painting I did a few days ago. Tried to keep it light, sharp and fun. Painting for me now is more of a journey. Keeping it rough with bold brush strokes and being spontaneous means that the road is partly unknown. A decision can take a painting in a totally new direction. A year ago I planned everything ahead and the paintings had a calm feeling. I paint so differently today (both good and bad I think).

Partially Abstract Water Lilies - Mini 2
When I painted "12 squares of waterlilies fun 2" I was delighted with some of the single squares and think I will do some small compositions of waterlilies paintings (8" x 8"). This is the 2nd one I did yesterday.
As usual I tried to keep things loose, fresh and have fun with it.

12 squares of waterlily fun 2
Before I painted the "Don't play with apples" I felt like doing another 12 squares painting, but the first one took some planning, each square would be like a small painting, but also they should work together. That's why I did the apple one, testing what it would look like if I didn't plan anything, and a square shouldn't work on it's own.
This painting is more like the first "12 squares" painting, but I tried to take the planning and each square a step further. I like the result, but it took much longer than usual to paint.

Partially Abstract Water Lilies 25
It is no secret that I like to paint Water Lilies. I never get tired of finding out new ways to paint them.
Here is a composition that I wanted to work on contrasts. The top is covered with leaves, but the rest is mostly water with a few leaves. I also tried to work with big contrasts.

Partially Abstract Water Lilies 24
After the last waterlily painting, I wanted to do another close-up waterlily painting. I wanted to go with a cleaner ellipse shaped green leaves.I tried to keep it loose, still keeping the spontaneity, rough brush-strokes etc.
Partially Abstract Water Lilies 23
I was satisfied with my latest Water Lilies painting and went on painting a more advanced composition. I kept it loose and didn't get caught on too much details. The thought was to go with it in the same direction as the previous one. I tend to work with more close-up compositions, so it was fun to go with this full view painting.

Partially Abstract Water Lilies 22
About a week ago, I got back to paint my old favorite, Waterlilies, and I tried to paint them more spontaneous than usual, and today I went back to do it again. I tried to follow the last one in style, keep it fresh, loose and with big brush strokes. I know I am not objective right now, but it feels like I am going in the right direction and I have a lot of fun.

12 squares of waterlily fun
I have done squares that were meant to be able to hang together. I also done 4 squares on the same paper/canvas. This time I thought of doing a lot of squares on the same paper. Each square had to work in some level on it's own. The squares had to work together and I want to make it in a way that fused the squares together so you see it as a whole and not as much as individual squares. Not sure if I explained it well enough, but here it is anyway. Wanted it to be fun, rough, colorful and spontaneous.
