This is the first painting I did of this kind of Iris, and it lead to me doing the larger painting with 3 of them. I wanted the background to be vivid but not drawing too much attention away from the flower, so I went with softer earthy colors and I think it worked well.
The iris does have a magnificent shape. With this painting, I see the gold at the center of the diagonals that inevitably cross when composing on a square canvas. You handled it well letting the right dominate line-wise.
SvaraRaderaThanks Linda. Like I usually say, I do go by instinct, and this one I like a lot and it feel "right" to me.
RaderaI think I still like #8, but then I'm attracted to pinks and purples. I do admire your ability to really explore just a few subjects, like trees, irises and healthy snacks. I'm all over the place with too many subjects bouncing around. Have a great week!
SvaraRaderaThanks Nora. I like to explore some things and test the limits, but I wished in a sense that I could just do what you do, just pick a thing and do it.
RaderaLove this! The earthy background works really well!!!
SvaraRaderaThanks Helen. The fun thing is that I usually don't want a lot of things in the background, and a few years ago, I had big problem doing backgrounds. Now I have fun with it, trying to balance the background so it is fun, but not too much fun and takes too much attention.
