Iris abstraction 11

It is no secret that I have painted a lot of Irises lately. When I visited my father a few weeks back I took photos of an Iris flower that inspired this painting. It had a different color setting. It is a nice challenge to paint yellowish white in an interesting way. I did paint a single flower first on a 16" x 16" canvas hardboard-MDF, but I think I show this first.

  1. Yes. I agree. This has the grace and elegance of irises.

    1. Thanks Linda. I try to play with the shapes and colors, but to keep them still recognizable.

  2. They look fantastic Roger. Your paintings are always so alive! They are practically moving on the canvas!

    1. Thank Nora. I go with my instincts and I don't finish until I think that the painting "pops"...

  3. Wow - maybe it's because I haven't stopped by in a while, but it seems you've loosened up even more lately. I like this recent stuff - whatever you're doing keep it up! ♥

    1. Thanks Karen. I try to push myself, try new things and grow as an artist. Not everything works out, but at least I learn things that I take with me along the way. I think this ones works, and I am pleased with it.

  4. This one seems softer than the other ones, maybe the color choice . I don't think you can pass by an Iris without getting inspired :-)))

    1. Thanks Jane. It was a special color set up on the Iris that inspired me and I used colors that I thought worked with the flower.

    1. Thanks Polly. I try to do things slightly different, even if the changes are small. No point in repeating oneself.

    1. Thanks! =) I like painting flowers. I know it might not be the most exiting topic, but I also think that it is not what you paint, it is how you paint it. Well, there are some exeptions.

    1. Thanks Julie. Too be honest. I go so much with my gut feeling, and can adjust a color several times, that I am not aware of what I have done. I just now if I have to do some changes or something doesn't work.

    1. Thank you Kara. I know that I ought to paint something more than my tree and Iris paintings right now, but on the other hand, that is what I feel like paintings, so I keep at it for the moment. =)
