I have just finished two small cupcake paintings, but got no photos of them yet. I have also finished two paintings that has been around for ages. Sometimes I can love and hate a painting at the same time, not sure what to do with it, but they have my approval now.

In the meantime I got this Iris that at first was too perfect and lame, so I went for it and tried to be bolder and now I think it is fun and got a lot of energy.

I could call this by it's real name, but I am not sure all would guess it, I tried to keep it simple, graphic and abstract. I think I will do more flowers and will probably not know the name of them all, so this might be a good choice to go, name wise I mean.

I am having a fun time painting small, trying new and old things out. I try to paint loose, but without loosing the graphic feel. It is a while since I painted an avocado, but I changed that.

I have had two commissions doing small remakes of older paintings and I think they came out very well, so why stop. This is a remake of an old challenge painting that I like. I have kept the original myself, so this is a smaller version of it.

This is another commission painting. It is a request to repaint a previous painting (Bowl with fruit 5), but smaller. There was a request to make the red apples red/green instead. I also did a few small changes. Mostly the shape of the bowl.

I have done a few Irises on small canvas before, when I started to paint on panels. Most of them wasn't any good, a few was OK. With this one I really tried to do them as I would have painting on a larger panel and I think I did it. I had to simplify and make less details on a few places, but it is still in the spirit of the flower.

This one was a challenge. I have done small paintings with trees, but they usually don't look like the large ones. With this one I tried to keep the style the same as I would do a large one and I was surprised that I achieved it.

My thought of going small due the lack of time also gives me the opportunity to grow, to balance loose style with the graphic feel and I am more interested in simple compositions than cramming in a lot of things for the sake of it.
Sometimes I get in trouble and I usually realize that I am not bold enough, and that is something I want to keep in mind with these 8" x 8" paintings.
I also want to try do things in the same ways that it would on a larger panel, for exampel trees and Irises.

After I did the commission painting of the cupcake, and I liked it, I begun to open up to the idea of going smaller again. The lack of time and energy also had some to do with it.
I have used the reference photo for this painting once before, but this time I did go much smaller.

I did this one a while back and I was a little ahead of time. Have been looking forward to the color change in the trees that will happen. I hope I have time to get out in the woods and take a lot of reference photos. This one is just a result of my imagination.

I regret accepting to work full time for the next 3 months, but I have to adjust and make time to paint. I have also thought about trying to go smaller too, not only go big. Not everyone wants big. This is a smaller tree painting than I usually do, not as abstract, but I still like it. It also proved to myself that even if I don't prefer it, I can paint small.

When I failed the first attempt on "Iris abstraction 18"I was very frustrated and felt that it was a wasted day.  I took a fresh panel and did only one of the flowers. I liked the composition and the form of the flowers on the failed painting, but was tired of it, due all the attempts to get it right. I failed  partly because I used an old panel with a few layers of paint on it. This painting gave me back some energy to do another try on the original composition.
