Purple Irises in the shade

This is me at the moment. I paint when I feel like it, I have no ambition to sell, I paint cause I love it, not for any other reason. I will still be happy if people like my work and buy it though.
I am working my day job, like always, but I will not feel the need to produce and post every single day. Not that it will mean that my paintings will be better for it, but I will not have to push it to get it posted.

This is a darker exploration of my favorite flower.

  1. Tout comme vous j'affectionne les iris... Bientôt ils fleuriront dans nos jardins...
J'aime particulièrement les nuances des couleurs que vous avez employées...

  2. Hej du, I noticed you slowed down your production, nice to see you again. This iris is very dark and almost broody , but still beautiful.

    1. Thank you.
Right now I want to concentrate on creating, not producing. I think a lot of us get caught up in the "I must post" mode. I am also getting back to why I paint, cause I love it, not for any other reason.

  3. These Irises look to be folding up, getting ready for bed - beautifully subdued. And those thin brushstrokes in the background suggest there's something important back there, but it's obscured from our view, like it has a secret. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it - but it feels very personal to me - I really love this one.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I want to grow as an artist right now, trying new things out, but also to have a life outside work and paing.

  4. Yes . . . I too, think this seems like a very personal piece. I don't know if it's because of what you wrote that accompanies it, or if it's just the painting. But I like it regardless. There's a quiet, contemplative feel to it. It really is lovely Roger. (The paintings in your dpw gallery slideshow are just stunning). What a great collection of work.

    1. I am not sure how much it is personal, but I agree that my thoughts about creating, selling, producing and growing as an artist have some impact in it.

  5. Hey Roger,
Yes... having a blog is a commitment and, personally, it can hang over my head some days and give me an exhausted 'anti-creative' feeling. Nonetheless, I think it makes me work harder. I think you're right, paint for yourself.
    Happy Painting,
    Nora
