Abstracture 13

I had no idea what painting to show. I don't dare to say how many I got to choose from, but I sat at least an hour before I had made up my mind.
I usually want to mix things up since I tend to do series of painting, but on the other hand I want to show my latest pieces. After some thinking I have chosen to post a subject that I have done and posted a lot, but have gone so abstract that I have decided to use the name of another series that is more abstract and has been influenced by nature. I also had in mind two paintings that I did with squares "Twelve squares of waterlily fun".

Pine Cone Abstraction 7

SOLD

This one was made  for a client that wanted a 12" X 12" pine cone painting. I didn't want to add anything more in the composition, but got more room to play with the interaction between the pine cone and the background.

Flower Abstraction 21

Right now I am more pushing and playing with subjects I like than finding a new subject that will give me that creative kick. One of the things I have played with lately is flowers, not so strange since flowers are all around you right now.

Pine Cone Abstraction 5

This is the 2nd smaller paintings I did of this subject. Painting them smaller meant that I could be bolder and could simplify them further.

Waterlily abstraction 7

SOLD

This is a new version of a painting that was lost on it's way to Canada last year. It rarely happens, but it is frustrating when it does. I did two versions, this is the first one. I liked this one a lot and it has the original painting's spirit, but I noticed that I had less visible water than the original. I think the reason for it is that the proportions on the new one is different than the original (original was painted on paper). I will show the 2nd one later.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 27

This is one of the more abstract paintings in the series and I personally like this direction, the colors, the repetition of shapes etc. I think this is a path worth taking if I want to pursue more abstract art. I have a lot of fun painting them too.

Pine Cone Abstraction 1

I'm finally painting again. Not sure if this will be a series of this new subject, but so far I have fun and have done 4 paintings so far. It was actually my father who suggested that I would give Pine cones a try. I had some doubt in the beginning, not sure if I could pull it of and do something interesting, but I gave it a go.
This one is rather big, but I intend to do some smaller ones too.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 21

I haven't actually painted at all lately, over a week since I touched a brush. It started with me over thinking how I made my last face exploration so effortless and after that I lost inspiration. I am taking things slow right now, recharging my battery and trying to figure out where to go next. Some subjects I don't feel like doing right now, others I'm not sure what direction I want  to take them (after all I want to ad some new to a subject).
Luckily I got paintings left to post. This is another one of the more abstract nest paintings.

Bird't Nest Abstraction 15

This is one of the more abstract paintings in the series. I also pushed and played with the colors. I had a lot of fun with it.

Flower Abstraction 18

I went back to this years favorite flowers and did a clean and simple composition, with a graphic impact. Simplicity isn't easy, every brush stroke count. I'm not sure if one can go too simple, but I like it.

Cupcake 22

SOLD

This is one of the cupcake paintings I did in early May. I took inspiration from two kind of cupcakes and did several versions of them. I didn't want to post them all at once. Right now I tend to do series of paintings with a subject and it is nice to have some paintings with other subjects to mix things up with.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 5

This is one of my earlier bird's nest painting and this time I worked more with depth, partly with limited amount of black lines. I can approach depth in several ways and there is also times when I don't even want to work with depth since it can work against keeping an abstract feel.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 26

After doing a lot of nests, more or less abstract, I combined waterlilies and nest in this painting. I might do a more elaborate painting of this, but at the moment I enjoy going more abstract and graphic with the nest series. I am still searching for an idea that can become a new series. A shape, an idea, a concept, suggestions are always welcome.

Flower Abstraction 14

The summer is here and what is more summer than flowers. Not sure why, but daisies and cone flowers are my favorite flowers so for this year. I did this one a while back, but I am considering start painting flowers again.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 16 & 19

SOLD

I loved this color combination so much that I did 3 paintings with it and variations of this composition. This is two of them. I know I want to keep one, probably the first one I did, the smaller one of the two.

Face exploration 10

Here is the painting I mentioned in my last post. If I went too far, well it is a matter of taste and if I stopped earlier I would have missed out on the learning experience. I like it as a finished painting, but I am also glad I took progress photos.

Below you can see the progress. In my opinion the first two stages could easily been a finished painting with a few adjustments.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 6

I just did a face exploration painting that I like, but the fun is the question "When is a painting finished?". I took 2 process photos and both could be, with some small changes, a finished painting. I did go further with it and I like the end result too. If I did the right thing or not, a matter of taste, but  at least I got the progress photos (posted on my Facebook page).

The painting I posting today started out totally different. I wanted to take a more aggressive approach, went with a deep red wash  and the color combined with the single abstract nest gave me all the wrong associations, so I did a 180 degree turn and just went for it. I love the almost invisible nests. They are there but very subtle.
