Here is another playful take on a Pine Cone. Every time I paint one, I get reminded of the similarities to a pine-tree or a fir-tree.

Simplifying a pine cone is a challenge. There is a structure that define it and finding the balance between giving enough information and keeping it simple is hard. I had a lot of fun with this one.

These pine cones are tricky to do. Very complex and defined, not much room to work with. I don't want them to get to realistic, which gives me a little creative freedom though.

This is how the painting look with my rustic home-made frame. The frame and painting complemented each other very well. It has a modern nature feel to it. The painting is now on it's way to it's new owner.

It is 3 years ago since I played around with pine cones. I think it is time for a  2nd time around. I want to stay with the small format, play around and have fun with it. This is my first attempt and I think it is a good starting point.

This was the 2nd one I painted in that series. It is one of the biggest ones I did and the colors are more natural. It still has some roughness and bold brush strokes though.

I was thinking of posting one of my new paintings of  berries, but couldn't decide which to pick, so I decided to go with this one instead. This is the most abstracted pine cones painting I did. I tried to avoid natural earthy colors and really went outside my comfort zone.

This was my first painting with more than one pine cone. I am not sure why, but it kept looking more natural and less abstract. I think I got a balance in the end and I am satisfied with the result.

This one was made  for a client that wanted a 12" X 12" pine cone painting. I didn't want to add anything more in the composition, but got more room to play with the interaction between the pine cone and the background.

This is the 2nd smaller paintings I did of this subject. Painting them smaller meant that I could be bolder and could simplify them further.

Pine Cone Abstraction 1

I'm finally painting again. Not sure if this will be a series of this new subject, but so far I have fun and have done 4 paintings so far. It was actually my father who suggested that I would give Pine cones a try. I had some doubt in the beginning, not sure if I could pull it of and do something interesting, but I gave it a go.
This one is rather big, but I intend to do some smaller ones too.
