Face Abstraction 1

 Not For Sale

This is the first attempt that gave me some clues about where I wanted to go. The proportions are a little out there, but it gave me something to think about.

    1. Thank you Mariela. The painting is the beginning of a long journey, it will be fun and frustrating at the same time.

  2. Amazing how you are able to adapt this style to a portrait.

    1. Thank you Carlene. I have some vague ideas about the direction I want to take, but it will take a while before I will feel confident with it.

  3. I had a lot of catching up to do. I loved your very first abstract. I I appreciated your old tighter style in your heads, but you're right. This new looser one is much better. The older ones reminded me of poster graphics. The looser style has potential. Actually, I was very surprised to see portraits. As long as I've been following you your subject has been trees or fruit. Nice change.

    1. Thank you Linda. I also like my old faces, but I want to express myself today, not to produce. It is a journey and it will be an interesting one, to find ways to simplify, find the key lines and play will colors and brush strokes.

  4. Wow, that's incredible. I've wanted to know how your style would look with people and now I do... and it's great. I love the purple and grey.

    1. Thank you Nora. I did love to paint faces, but when I my style changed I felt unsure how to make faces work. At least I have started the journey again.

    1. Thank you Crystal. Perhaps in a far distance I will try for likeness, but for now I am more interesting in the journey and the way to express a face. I take inspiration from a photo, but I usually let the inspiration lead me where to go.

    1. Thank you Joy. The white lines has been a part of my style for a while, and my ambition is to find out how I want to express faces with my style today.

    1. Thank you Art-Traveller (can't find your name).
I don't aim for likeness. I don't even aim for beauty. I want to express myself with the colors and brush strokes. It is a journey and I have to see where it takes me.

    1. Thank you Kathleen. I must work up a new kind of experience, the kind I need for faces. I got a lot of confidence when I do fruits etc, but then I got a lot of practice.

  9. I'm a sucker for portraits and there's so much energy in this one, so yeah, more of these please!

That said, your style is so distinctive by now Roger that probably, no matter the subject, it's gonna look good and read "you"

    1. Thank you Teresa. I am glad you say that I got a distinctive style. I hope I can transfer/apply it on faces, just need some practice and figure out how I should apply my style to it.

  10. Jaw dropped when I saw this but knew it was yours right away. Your signature style lends itself very well to this and I am looking forward to seeing more. I can tell from all the comments it caught the eye of a lot of good artists

    1. Thank you Julie. I have always enjoyed painting faces, but with a new style of painting I need a new approach to paint them, so faces are a work in progress for me right now.
