After a few abstract paintings based on lines and movement, I did this one, a painting with more focus on shapes. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

Landscape Exploration 1

My two worst enemies are "Over thinking" and "Rushing things" (going to loose too fast), which resulted in no tree paintings last year.
I have finally gotten through that barrier and have done several paintings now. Today's post isn't something that I think is a perfect fit with my style, a landscape. I was talking to my father about what to paint and he suggested a photo that he took last year and that was a challenge.
I am sure I can develop this further, going bolder and more abstract, but I learned a lot during this process.

I think I will allways get inspired and challenged by this subject. The leaves change color in the autumn and the range of colors include purple, yellow, orange and red. I painted this a while back and it shows the trees with it's berries turned red, but the leaves are still green.

I have played around a lot with flowers like Daisies and Cone flowers, especially since I realized that I could take a lot of creative license. This is simplicity on a large scale, being bold with the brush strokes.

I got several anniversaries and special days this year, me and my love have been together for 10 years soon, been married one year, turning 50 in late May and putting up post number 500 on my blog.
I think in a way it is fitting to post a Rowan berries painting since that is the theme that I have enjoyed painting the most these last months. It wouldn't surprise me if I would paint more of them, but after this I only have one more to post.

This is one of my personal favorites. After painting squares I decided to go up in size and explore more. What I like with this series is that it is part nature/landscape and part fruit/berries. I have learned a lot and I hope to take some of it with me when I get back to my tree abstraction paintings.

I am finishing up some smaller things and details in my hallway, after that it should be finished. I am going to repaint the doors and change handles, but that have to wait.
I have done a few with this perspective before, but went bolder with color and mixed the up the black line to get some depth.

I know that I have done a lot of trees/forest paintings the last month or so, but of all the seasons, this is the most inspiring one. There is a lot of warm colors but there is room to play around a lot. I did this a while back, but I think it's worth showing. I like the colors and the airy feeling of it.

This is my take on the latest Studio Atelier challenge "Colorado Gold". I worked and took inspirations from the provided photo, but took enough creative license to make it work for me. It was fun and I really tried to go outside my comfort zone.

I really needed to paint something else than trees, even if I was on a roll & liked what I was doing. I took a big painting that I only thought was OK, and painted over it with this iris duo composition. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the panel had a lot of old layers of paint, but I liked the motive, but I f......ed it up. I started again with painting one of the flower on a 20" x 20" panel, liked it (will be shown later) and then I went back to do the original composition, but on a new fresh slightly smaller panel and this is the result.

There is a slight shine in the black line (left lower corner) and it will rephotographed after I varnished it.

Waterlilies has always been one of my favorite things to paint. I love the green leaves more than the flowers them self, the remind me of the old computer game "PAC-Man". It has been a while, but I think it is time to explore them with my looser painting style. I have done two paintings so far, one could say that they are a starting point, from which I will explore and go outside my comfort zone.

It is no secret that I have painted a lot of Irises lately. When I visited my father a few weeks back I took photos of an Iris flower that inspired this painting. It had a different color setting. It is a nice challenge to paint yellowish white in an interesting way. I did paint a single flower first on a 16" x 16" canvas hardboard-MDF, but I think I show this first.

Testing putting price only on material and time used, not size.

 I started darker with this one and worked from there. It made the trunks darker and made the painting more dramatic with those contrasts.

Iris abstraction 2

After I did a roughed up, a more abstract version of "Iris variation 1" I thought I do another one, and went with an old favorite composition, a subject I know well, and went for it. This is the result.
