I know I am early with being inspired by the autumn, and I have put that subject on hold during the flower period.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 67
Painting small has been working very well for me lately. That doesn't happen all the time. Working with expressive lines and brush strokes is hard to fit on a small space. My abstract bird's nests need a balance between complex line work and clean graphic execution.

Painting white or light colors with my style is tricky. It can easily be more lines than surfaces or looking very hard. The ones I have done lately has turned out great and I have taken the opportunity by testing different approaches.

This one was very direct and painted itself. The challenge of painting more than one flowers is to find the balance between keeping them interesting and working together.

This is a wild asymmetrical flower with bold complimentary colors. I did this one in a small and a smaller version.... this is the smallest one.

Painting small seem large right now. I even felt comfortable adding eggs in this 8" x 8" painting. Eggs make it less abstract and I usually exclude them for that reason.

This one was inspired by a pink double coneflower, if that is the right term. I simplified it and did my take on it. It was a challenge, but I like the result.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 57
Something that I wished that I had more of during my Easter Exhibition was small bird's nest paintings. I'm not sure why, but I had the impression that 6" x 6" was too small for me to do a nest like I want them.
After a few small flower paintings it was time to give it a try and I really love the result. It is a challenge, but a fun one.

Working small is going great right now and I am trying to take advantage of it. This is a painting that are slightly larger and was done just before I went down in size. I love the limited color pallette.

Still keeping it small, but continued to explore berries. Painting small mean keeping it simple, making every brush stroke count. A few paint strokes can be the difference between a winner and a failure.

I have really embraced the small format lately, 8 " x 8" seem large right now. I still keep it simple and focus on color, shape and impact. There is no point in trying to make a composition too complex with my defined outlines. This is a return to other forms of flowers.
