Flower Abstraction 157

After the initial start, the large flowers and the dark, but vivid background, I had two choices. I could stay with that and only work and balance these elements. I could also take advantage of the large size to ad smaller elements, to ad size and depth contrasts. I chose to latter. I think I made the right decision.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 53

Am busy assembling our new greenhouse, a lot of work, but thought I post this painting that I did a few weeks ago. This is a large bird's nest painting that has a lot of earthy colors, wanted to play with variations, keep it interesting without it getting messy.

Flower Abstraction 151

Have been busy with planning and working in our garden lately. Have been able to paint and finish a large bird's nest painting, but more about that later.

This is a my largest flower abstraction to date. I wanted to go bold, making a more complex composition with more flowers, not just the same amount, but larger.
So this one is over the top, colorful and fun.

"Landscape exploration 17"

I have been working on this one for a while. This is the largest size that I do, would like to go bigger, but for now this is big enough.
I was considering to show a painting with the same theme in my easter exhibition, but that one isn't for sale (hanging in my living room), but decided that it was a waste of an opportunity and did this one to exhibit instead.
I am pleased about how the painting turned out, but am going to photograph it again, as soon as I have figured out where and how to photograph paintings in our new house.

Bird's Nest Abstraction 40

SOLD

I started this one 5 weeks ago, in the middle of my 9-10 weeks break. I had to stop painting when I realized that covering up the newly sanded and varnished floor was a bad idea, the color on the floor has to set first, otherwise you got dark and light spots.
It is finished now though (I think), I have experimented a lot, pushed my limits, tried to keep it rough enough, playful and not simplify it too much. This is the largest bird's nest painting that I have done and a real challenge since I only had the basic composition to work from.
I'm not objective enough to judge this one right now, but I learned a lot from the process.

Shapes & Movement 25

This was a large landscape painting going nowhere. It did didn't have the edge that I was looking for. Since a start with initial line work and washes on a empty canvas was an impossibility, I decided to do my largest abstract painting ever, it was a real challenge. I had a lot of fun, a lot of head-scratches, and learned a lot in the process. I'm not totally objective to judge it yet, but so far, I am pleased with the result.

Landscape abstraction 7

I felt that I had to push myself a little after doing a more "subtle" landscape painting, going more bold with the colors and brush strokes. It is the same size as the other real large ones that I have done. It was a challenge, but I think it paid of.

Landscape Exploration 11

This is my latest painting. Can't say that I am objective right now, but I am pleased with it. I know that I can paint small, but right now it doesn't work for me. It is only when I go big that I feel that I can spread my wings and fly. Going small right now mean getting stuck, but I know that will change.

2nd photo show size compared to a 6" x 6" painting.

A matter of size...

The difficult thing about pictures of paintings on Internet is to show size. The best way to show size is to see the painting, experience the painting. The next best thing is to compare it with something. Thought I would compare my largest paintings size with my smallest one (6" x 6").

Landscape Exploration 6

This is my first real big painting that I did after my exhibition. It was fun to get back into painting, and painting big. I went with a more complex composition, and it was both fun and hard to balance it all.
