Landscape Exploration 18

This is a large painting that is the result after rejecting and painting over a painting that others liked, but I didn't. Starting over is a blessing and a curse. It can give you a freedom to let go since you don't have anything to loose or the existing paint can distract and make it hard to move on. Am not objective enough, but it is a lot better than what was there before.

Shapes & Movement 27

I actually painted this one before my previous/last post. I played with shapes and lines and I liked the result very much and it became my inspiration for "Tree Abstraction 61" .

Tree Abstraction 61

Only one month left until my Easter exhibition, and every painting is done and judged from that perspective. It is not a question if a painting is good or bad, the only thing on my mind is if it possible fit to show. This one is large, but one of the smallest ones that I am considering to include in the exhibition.
Still have to take a better picture of it though.

Rowan Berries 22

Not For Sale

I have been working on this for a while, the biggest berries painting to date. I tried to keep it rough, wild like nature.

Shapes & Movement 26

I did this abstract painting from the initial letters in a name, deconstructed them and had some fun with shapes and colors.
I know that the mind tries to make sense what it see and letters is one of the most recognizable things there are.

"Landscape exploration 17"

I have been working on this one for a while. This is the largest size that I do, would like to go bigger, but for now this is big enough.
I was considering to show a painting with the same theme in my easter exhibition, but that one isn't for sale (hanging in my living room), but decided that it was a waste of an opportunity and did this one to exhibit instead.
I am pleased about how the painting turned out, but am going to photograph it again, as soon as I have figured out where and how to photograph paintings in our new house.

"Landscape Exploration 15

This is one of my smaller landscape paintings. I know that it isn't that small, but I don't like going too small, doesn't fit my style of painting. I can go smaller, but I really have to be in the right frame of mind.

Landscape Exploration 16

This is a larger painting that gave me trouble. I'm not sure if it was the initial composition or the way that I approached the front and back of the original landscape, but it felt disconnected, like the top half of the painting belonged to a different painting.
The bottom half was much rougher than the top and I decided to rework the top half and this is the result. I am glad that I went for it and didn't settle for something that was average at best.

Landscape Exploration 14

SOLD

I did have something else in mind with the lower part of this painting, but I couldn't make it work, so I had to use my own intuition. Some things look great in a picture (real life), but it doesn't mean that it translate in a good way when painting it.

Landscape Exploration 13

SOLD

After a few wipes it was time to slow things down and not rush it. I am pleased with this medium size landscape, but I had to work for it. I am not in the zone yet. I just have to remind myself to slow down, not over think things and have fun.

Tree Abstraction 58

To get started I went to some favorite subjects, but somehow, that didn't work, felt like I was going through the motions. I also had problem with the balance between roughness and control, something that was expected after a 5-6 months break.

After a few wipes and rejects, I got this idea to make a new version of an old painting that I like, but could be improved, so I made this one. It isn't perfect, but it got me starting and gave me that inspiration to start something new.

4 days left...

I know that it has been long between posts, but I hope everything will get back to normal soon.
Four days left and I can feel it in my bones, can't wait to move. There are now approximately 50-60 boxes in our living room. We have emptied our attic space, well almost, there is a candy pastille box left there, but can't move that one by myself (sounds weird I know).

Getting the keys to our house on Tuesday. Will start to move then, but the big load moves on Wednesday. That will be a great workout session.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry X-mas and a Happy Creative New Year.

20 days left....

I thought I would be able to get some painting done before moving, but my heart and mind isn't in it, so no painting until we are set in our new place. I did create this nice pile though. Does it count as a sculpture? (just kidding)

20 days left now...

Latest update!

I have been absent for a while and I haven't had any serious painting time for months.
It started with the idea of starting to plan the next part of our life, getting a larger place to live in.
That meant fixing/renovate our kitchen etc., selling our apartment, finding a house to buy and moving there.
Well, we have 6 weeks to pack our things and move to our first house. A lot more space (with a real studio space to paint in), a garden etc. I am looking forward to it.

I am going to try to get one painting done before it is time to focus on packing. It is for my own pleasure and to get my mind off things. I think I am going for a large version of an old favorite of mine.

I also took the time to go through old paintings and destroyed the ones that I didn't like, wasn't good enough or interesting enough to keep. The final count was around 70 paintings, so that makes the move slightly lighter.

I hope I will get back to some regular painting soon.
This is a picture of some of the paintings that are no longer.

Carol Marine's Book "Daily Painting"

Carol Marine has written a book about "Daily Painting". She is a great artist and teacher and the book is full of great art and tips about painting. Carol was kind enough to include me, my thoughts and a painting in the book.

It is a great book and it is available at Amazon.
