It is weekend and everyone is enjoying the summer and the fine weather. Time to post some older paintings that haven't been posted yet. This is a slightly larger version of a painting I posted a while back. Going up in size meant that I could work more freely.

This is one of the first flower paintings I did after turning things up a notch. Blue used to be my number one color, but not lately. Nice to revisit that color.

I know, I got a lot of paintings that should be posted first, but I really want to share this one with you. I did try to paint Dogwood flowers last year, but it didn't work out, so I scrapped that idea. My recent flower paintings gave me the energy and confident to give Dogwood another try, this is my first attempt. I have also done a small, more cropped version of this composition and a large painting with a bigger view of the composition (less cropped than the first one).

This is one of the paintings that I have painted with poppy flowers as reference. I like how the petals are few and how they are moving in the wind, creating shapes.

I have been painting a lot of flowers, keeping them graphic and fun, but I realized that I started to get to soft, too detailed and the flowers started to look more like illustrations. Because of that I have started to push  things further (colors, shapes, compositions etc.).

This is my first painting that include a rose this year. The composition is actually a really bold crop of a bouquet of flowers.

This was my first painting with more than one pine cone. I am not sure why, but it kept looking more natural and less abstract. I think I got a balance in the end and I am satisfied with the result.

A lot of painters do more items, more complex compositions when they go up in size, I do it too sometimes, but I also enjoy doing a composition that I might do on a 8" x 8" panel. The downside is that the size impact get lost on the net. I enjoy painting these flowers, playing with their characters, colors and shapes.

Well, I have only done one painting of this flower before and I thought it was time for a new one. I took a rejected panel and worked with the structure that was on it and came up with this one. I did make another slightly bigger without the cone flower. Will show that one later.

This is a slightly larger version of a painting I did a while back. I liked the old version, but I wanted to see how it would look if I could go bolder with my brush strokes and lines. Size do make a difference, at least I feel more free and can feel the brush strokes while I painting, if you know what I mean.

This was my first bird's nest with eggs in it and it was Julie Ford Oliver that suggested it. Julie was also the one that suggested bird's nests as a subject for me to try out.
I was a little afraid that eggs would make it less abstract, but I tried to play with it and make it work.

This is my entry to "The Sunflower(s) Challenge" on Daily Paintworks Homepage. I have done two paintings, have to see if both will be posted as challenge entries or not. The challenge was to have fun and paint Sunflowers. I'm not sure why, since there were no reason too, but I did two failed attempts cause I lost my way, got too wrapped up in how many petals etc the flowers had. I was very frustrated nothing worked for me, then I did this one. I took the elements of a Sunflower, but I tweaked it and did it my way.

I have been painting a lot of flowers lately. I realized that I get bored if it gets too "natural". I want them up close, a little fun and graphic. I still hope that I will find a way to paint flowers in a vase some day with my twist.
