Landscape exploration 2 - The start

This is the first brush strokes of my latest and largest painting.I didn't have any reference picture for this painting and my initiate thought was to go in a totally different direction than where it ended up. I went with the flow and sketched this composition/layout with bold blue brush strokes. I also kept these blue brush stokes through the final painting to keep it less realistic, more abstract, even though some will get the association to water.

I am still not sure how many paintings I will show in my exhibit during Easter, but I have to get paintings framed and decide which will be in soon. This is one that I might have in, but all depend what mix of paintings I decide to have. I have some large more abstract nest paintings that I think is among the ones that will be in the exhibition, so this one is only a "might be in".

I have worked on the large side lately, so not much new small paintings to show. My latest painting (that I hope is finished and good enough) is 40" x 40". This one is smaller and is a composition I did several version of and I had a lot fun exploring.

I have done 3 paintings of this subject and composition, a single flower based on a sunflower. The last one was a small painting that I thought would be on my upcoming exhibition, but it got sold. I got the urge to do another one, but not repeating myself. I went up in size, a lot, and I like the impact that it has.

Forest Exploration 12

It is typically me, but right now, when everything is working out, I get tired of what I am doing. I think I have to mix up things a little and give trees a rest for a while.
I did this around a week ago and it is not my typically painting. It is a gallery wrapped canvas and is among the biggest things I have done.
My challenge when it comes to painting is the fine balance between being contemporary and being illustrative. I really wanted to keep this one contemporary and rough. I think it turned out great.

Birch abstraction 5

It is over a year ago that I did my last Birch tree painting. Those trees have a graphic quality that I like. I kept a limited color palette on this one and had some fun with it.

Haven't painted anything in over a week. Even though the flue part is over, I still cough and am not back to perfect health yet. Coughing at night also mean less sleep, and I am tired a lot.
I did this one earlier, and this is probably my contribution to the art lottery that is held during "the Easter art exhibition". All artists in the guild that exhibit during Easter, give one painting to the lottery. There is time to change my mind though.

I did this one before I went with the limited palette. It got a more illustrative look and the path lead me to do more details than I initially had in mind, but that is part of the process.

This is a new version of a composition I painted a while back. It is one of those personal favorites I got, and I kept the original painting myself. I decided to do another one that could be part of my exhibition in April. It is the same size as the original, both are huge. There is always things that can't be replicated, but I think this one can stand on it's own, and I like it a lot.

I am sick with the flue, so not getting anything done right now. This is one of a series of paintings with a very limited color palette. The hardest part was to know when to stop, not overworking it.

I know I should paint more smaller paintings, but end up going bigger and bigger with the focus on my Easter exhibition. This is as small as they come right now and is a colorful bird nest.

I am considering to revisiting birch trees, has been a while.

I painted a few variation of this composition. With this one I wanted to work more with depth, but without loosing impact. I also went up in size, trying to keep the bold brush work.

This was my first forest/tree painting, the one that got me starting playing around with this theme again. I wanted to use a lot of values, with the sunlight finding it's way to the ground.
