Birch Abstraction 6

SOLD

I am working mostly with non-figurative abstract paintings at the moment and that will naturally be a common theme in my future posts. I try to mix up things from time to time and the painting of the day is one of those paintings. I have done of landscapes and tree paintings a while back, thought I would take the opportunity to do a small tree painting. Painting small has worked very well for me lately. I would like to take future tree painting in to a more abstract direction, but I like this one a lot.

Birch abstraction 5

It is over a year ago that I did my last Birch tree painting. Those trees have a graphic quality that I like. I kept a limited color palette on this one and had some fun with it.

Birch abstraction 3

This is my contribution to The Birch Tree Challenge, this week's challenge on Daily Paintworks. I was inspired by the provided photo, but did take my personal approach to it.

New photo. The one before was taken late in the afternoon in bad light.

Birch tree abstraction 1

I have done a lot of exploration of trees/forest paintings. I did take a detour from the path, still trees, but I did this birch tree painting. I kept it simple and I didn't do anything to suggest what kind of trees it was until I was almost finished with the painting, and I tried to do as little as possible to indicate it.

The end of summer 1

Have to have a post with a finished painting too. I have posted the 2nd one earlier this week and now it is time for the one I started with, but finished last. I wasn't sure about the direction at some point, that's why I started a 2nd one. I later returned to this one and reworked it a lot. I could take some chances since I felt I had one painting that I was satisfied with already. I like both, and have no favorite at this point.

Birch Trees 8

This is a large painting and I did is as a replacement of some of my own old artwork that I have framed and displayed in my apartment. It is a continuation of my first Birch trees painting, wanted it to have the same feel, but with more details. It didn't end like that exactly, at some point the painting did take on it's own personality, and I just went along with it.

Birch Trees Inferno

This is loosely based and inspired by a small painting I did earlier (Birch Trees Mini). I think I took things one more step further toward abstraction. I wanted it to explode with colors, like getting overwhelmed by it all when walking in the woods.

Birch Trees 7

After I did my last big Birch Trees painting I bought the biggest canvas board-MDF I could find and did this one. I turned up the colors, changed the motive and composition, and had a blast with it.

Birch Trees 6

After I did my first Birch tree paintings, I have had in mind doing a more elaborated painting. After doing a mid-size painting on canvas board-MDF, I realized that I didn't like fiddling with small details and that I loose range in colors and textures. Since I didn't have any large canvas board-MDF at home, I took the largest paper I got and just let loose. This is the result. I toned down the colors and let just some pure color hit in places.

Birch Trees 5

This is a continuation of my first Birch-trees painting. I took the concept and pushed it further than I did then. This is more expressive with the brush-strokes and colors. The first one was simpler and had a limited color pallet, this one ... doesn't.

Birch Trees 4

Didn't know if I should name this one "Looking up" or "Birch-trees 4", well I chose the last name. The painting is the same approach that I did on my "That time of year 2 "-painting, but not as abstract and with birch-trees. My first attempt on this failed. It lacked the graphic feeling I wanted and it felt messy, so that one will be painted over later.

Birch Trees 3

I finished the larger painting today and did also a small painting. The sun sets so early at this time of year, that when I got out to photograph the paintings, the light was so bad that I only got an "OK" photo of the smaller one, so that is the one I have to post. I will probably take new pictures of the paintings tomorrow, but this one have to do for now. (Have changed the photo, so now it is a more accurate photo).
The painting is a continuation of my first Birch-trees painting. This time I changed the palette and played a little more with it. I wanted it to be graphic and simple. I like the result.

Birch Trees - mini 1

This is a simple birch-tree painting I did to test some things out. I will probably make a larger version of it, but right now I am working on a bigger painting on "canvas board-MDF".  I got the suggestion from someone, that she would love to see one of my tree-paintings on a larger "canvas board-MDF, so I got inspired and bought a 19.7" x 24" canvas board-MDF, and am now working on a new interpretation of the motive used in "That time of year 4".

Birch Trees 2

When I did the first Birch-tree painting, I kept it simple with a restricted color palette. After that one I did a small (8" x 8") more colorful Birch-tree painting, to be shown later, and then I did this one.

Birch Trees 1

Thought I would go back to nature. I continued with my quest to find my way to capture nature. Birch-trees are graphic and stunning, and you can find many artists painting them. Do I do something new? Probably not, but hopefully I will put my twist on it in the end.
I kept this one simple, held back on color and let it have a graphic feel.
